Remembering Tap Dancer Alfred Desio (1932-2007)

A tribute, profile, and fan site honoring professional tap dancer, tap instructor, composer, and choreographer Alfred Desio. Desio was born in 1932 in the city of Geneva, New York and he died in 2007, at age 74, in the city of Los Angeles.

SPOUSE: Louise Reichlin (Los Angeles Choreographers and Dancers)

Alfred Desio was a dancer, choreographer, composer, and inventor of the Tap-Tronics electronic tap dancing systme. He performed in many Broadway musicals and taught at the University of Southern California, the Colburn School of Performing Arts, and Loyola Marymount University.

Desio invented Tap-Tronics in the 1980's, a technology featuring microphones inside tap shoes that transmit sounds to receivers,synthesizers, and other electronic equipment. His electronic tap dancing was featured in the 1989 film "Tap", starring Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis Jr., and Savion Glover.

Desio played a Shark in the original Broadway production of "West Side Story". Also appeared in the musicals "Fiddler on the Roof", "Man of La Mancha", and "She Loves Me", "Kean," "Donnybrook," "Zorba" and "Coco."
