Daniel Washington began tap dancing at age 6. He studied for 12 years with Karoll Bauer and Luke Lofflemacher at the Alwin School of Dance in New Mexico and he taught at that school in 2011 and 2012. He began dancing with the Alley Kats Tap Company at age 16.

Daniel Washington moved to the San Francisco Bay Area at about age 18 where he danced with the Stanford University tap dancing group and served as their presdent between September of 2014 and June of 2016.
