The "Tap Dance Kid" musical is based on the Louise Fitzhugh novel "Nobody's Family is Going to Change. The musical tells the story of a young boy from an upper middle class African-American family who dreams of becoming a professional; dancer, a dream his lawyer father opposes.

1983 "Tap Dance Kid" Production
The original production of "Tap Dance Kid" opened on Broadway in December of 1983. The musical was nominated for six Tony Awards and it won two, including Danny Daniels for best choreography.
