About the American Tap Dance Foundation

An introduction to the American Tap Dance Foundation.

New York based organization founded in 1986 to establish and legitimize tap dancing as a vital component of American Dance through creation, presentation, education, and preservation. The organization was known as the American Tap Dance Orchestra between 1986 and 1999.

The company operated the Woodpeckers Dance Center in New York City between 1989 and 1995. The center was used to teach classes and perfomrm for the public. The organization was given its current name in 2001 and the American Tap Dance Center opened and became ther headquarters in 2010.
